Anchor Tattoo

The anchor is one of a handful of symbols in the tattoo world which has remained both popular and true to its origins. In maritime lore, the tattooed anchor showed that a seaman had sailed the Atlantic Ocean. In ancient times among Mediterranean seafarers, the anchor symbolized the sea gods. Many times the anchor is combined with other symbols that elaborate something more specific -- various creatures of the sea, ships, lifesavers, names of ports. In general, though, it guarantees stability and security in the physical world and by extension also steadfastness, hope, and trust in the spiritual world.

L'ancora è uno di un gruppo di simboli nel mondo del tatuaggio, che è rimasto popolare e fedele alle sue origini. Nella tradizione marittima, l'ancora tatuata dimostrava che un marinaio aveva navigato l'Oceano Atlantico. Nei tempi antichi tra marittimi del Mediterraneo, l'ancora era simbolo delle divinità marine. Molte volte l'ancora è combinata con altri simboli più specifici ed elaborati - varie creature del mare, navi, bagnini, i nomi dei porti. In generale, però, garantisce stabilità e la sicurezza nel mondo fisico e, per estensione anche costanza, la speranza e la fiducia nel mondo spirituale.
